This past Wednesday, I sent a note to my newly found Uncle Keith (which still sort of freaks me out as my stepfather's brother's name was also Keith; he passed away a couple of years ago now). In it, I was pretty forward, asking some questions which he said he would get the answers to but may have been a little overwhelming. Amongst the questions: What are the details surrounding any crimes my father committed? What was he in prison for? What was the family ever told about me and my mother? Were there ever any attempts by the Fagan family to stay in contact with my mother in order to keep me aware of the family and possibly a part of it? Was there some sort of tacit agreement to not get involved? And perhaps the most interesting to me: Has my father ever spoken about me?
I am both apprehensive as well as excited to hear the answers to these questions, but I worry sometimes if I am moving too fast, digging too deep too quickly. In the end I believe it to be of the utmost importance for me to have some sort of contact, some sort of relationship with my father's side of the family, if not my father himself. And that is yet to come: The face-to-face....
Last week provided me with quite a bit of information. I hope this week sees some of that as well......
