Got this video as something of a "gift" for being a member of nin.com and completing a survey Trent sent out (note: I uploaded this to my youtube.com account so I could then get the code to embed into this blog page....). Good song, good performance. As someone who has seen NIN numerous times (including gigs from the smaller club days in the late 80s/early 90s), I highly recommend seeing them live.....

what was it like seeing nin play in the late 80s?
what's the smallest place you saw them play?
The smallest venue I ever saw NIN play was a tiny little place in S.F. that was called "The I-Beam". It was located right on Haight and no longer exists to the best of my knowledge. "Pretty Hate Machine" was literally brand-spanking new and very few people knew who this band was; Hell, "they" were not even a band at that point as it was Trent and I believe one other person on stage (perhaps Chris Vrenna? Can't recall now....see what old age does to you?). There was MAYBE 50 people in this place, alongside myself and three friends. We had already been rocking the album, so knew all the lyrics to all the songs and were not shy about being right at the tiny stage screaming along. Enough so that after the fourth song, Trent looked down at us and said "Who let the fucking Mormon Tabernacle Choir in here?". Then, of course, MTV picked up on "Head Like a Hole" and any possibility of ever seeing NIN in a small hole-in-the-wall again faded into history......
wow.
